Ok, so I have slacked off a bit (that's an understatement). I hope to begin working on my blog again, and finish putting up all the pics I have taken but never posted. I am debating on whether I will try another 365 again, but in all likely hood, I not sure I will, but I might try a 52-1. Slightly more manageable I think. Check back in the future for my updates. Have a great one! - Jen

Today was Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk. This is another fellow photog that I met on the walk. Very nice guy... We played a bit with off camera flash. My BF Jen is holding her SB-900 on my camera right, and Glenn is holding his SB-600 in is right hand. We got this very cool image. What do you think? When I post process, I usually include smoothing the skin, but I almost think I like it how it is... Kinds of adds character and adds to the portrait. What would you do? Should I smooth the skin or leave it as part of the image? Comments appreciated. Thanks!

Friday, May 29th, 2009 - The day the D70 died...
A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that photos used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they'd be happy for a while.
But May made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the D70 died.
So bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.
Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock n roll,
Can photos save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you're in love with him
`cause I saw you dancing in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.
I was a lonely teenage bronc'n buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the D70 died.
I started singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.
Now for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rolling stone,
But thats not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from James dean
And a voice that came from you and me,
Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the D70 died.
We were singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.
Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the D70 died?
We started singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.
Oh, and there we were all in one place,
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devils only friend.
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satans spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the D70 died
He was singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd seen the photos years before,
But the man there said the photos wouldn't show.
And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the D70 died.
And they were singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.
They were singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing, this'll be the day that I die.

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls
But everyday I grow a bit
And soon I'll be so tall
That all those little fingerprints
Will be so hard to recall.
So here's a special handprint
Just so that you can say
This is how my fingers looked
When I placed them here today

I woke up and my first thought is.... "I can see!" Now mind you, I can't really see any better than before the surgery, but going into the surgery, I didn't know if I'd have any eyesight coming out the surgery. Now we just have to do a lot of wait and see, to see if it actually gets better. Oh, and I'm not mad in the photo, just in so much pain, I can't smile or move. and I am VERY shocked, I do not see any marks on the outside of my face. It doesn't look bruised or swollen. I look totally normal. WOW - What doctors are able to do these days!

Quick snapshop, pre-surgery. I am minutes away from another, orbital decompression. This time done trans-nasal endoscopically. Let's hope it works this time!
For those unaware of my situation... I was recently diagnosed with a tumor on my optic nerve. I am partially blind in my left eye, and we are trying to save my eyesight. This is my second surgery, my other one was done on April 1st of this year. (I think my doctors like holidays, the first one was on April Fools Day, and this on is on Cinco De Mayo. LoL!)

An update on the eyes... Looking much better on the outside, but still having trouble seeing. I had a CT scan today. I am being referred by my eye surgeon to an ENT surgeon and a neurosurgeon, for additional surgery. This time they will go up my nose and do another decompression further back in my head. Yippie... can't wait (not). So another week or so of pre-op appointments and then back under the knife when all the administrative stuff gets sorted out and my surgery gets scheduled.

This is the man responsible for my obession with photography... Blame it all on him... My DAD! :)
See his camera... The photography "thing" runs in the family.
It's all his fault. LoL!!! :)
And since I couldn't decide which photo for today, I could resist putting up one more....
Family...Hubby, Daughter, Dad, & Son!
:)
I just had to put up a eye pic...
it's getting better! Still can't see very well thru it, but at least it doesn't look too much like I got beat up anymore.

5 Days after surgery... Sorry about all the eye images, but I didn't want to give up on the blog, and due to having a huge hole drilled in my head, I didn't feel like getting up off my couch and taking pics (understandably so, I hope). Now, it is a wait and see, on my vision improvements. Currently, my vision is worse than ever (oh, the irony), Double vison, blurry, and still partially blind. I hope it improves soon and I hope the surgery was the right choice.

Got my MRI results back...
I have a hopefully, most probably,
benign tumor on my optical nerve.
Needless to say, I didn't take this photo,
but I thought it would count as today's photo.
Now, my doctors and I just need to figure
the best course of action for my treatment.
Keep your fingers crossed, I can save my eyesight!
(Blind photographers... probably don't make much money! LoL!!!)
BTW - Happy St. Patrick's Day, Everyone!

so I went to a ophthalmologist apt. today.
I'm not sure why I'm smiling,
I just had my eyes dilated,
and I am on my way to get blood work,
so I can get an MRI tomorrow.
Fun! NOT!
I thik the smile, is because
of the fashionable sunglasses.
Don't you just love my fashionable sunglasses???

Kyle playing hockey, in a "real" game. We have done clinic all season (not a team, no real games), and he was so excited to play in a "real" game, against another team. In fact this weekend, was a jamboree, and he got to play in three games. His team won 2 of the 3. Can you just imagine the excitement for a 5 year old! Check out the concentration on his face. I love it.

I know that these are not very techically correct, I was testing some lights, and my light meter. (Confirmed, I need to send the light meter to be repaired. Not so happy about.) But, for the first time in a long time, I got my hubby to patiently sit in front of my camera, so I could run through tests. Thanks Ken! I really need to edit these images... they SOOC images.

So, after attending Bobbi Lane's Flash Class Workshop, I am totally inspired to try to use gels on my speedlights. But, I don't want to ruin my filters every time with tape. So, I decided to make a filter holder for my speedlight. I first obtained a Rosco Swatchbook of gels, carefully pulled out the pin holding it together. I then replaced it with metal hoop (JoAnne's embroridery section), that can be opened and closed any time I want to remove or replace the filter. Then, I got some badge holders from Staples, and cut them on the top and folded them in a way they would just slip into my speedlight. No tape or velcro needed. Volia... I now have a reusable filter/gel holder for very little cost.

My son is so into Wall-E these days that the movie has surpassed Cars, and now is classified as his favorite. So, he got out his legos and made a robot. He is so proud of it, I'm supposed to put it high on a shelf out of reach of his little sister, so that in his words "she won't mess it up!", I figured since he liked it that much, I'd make it my POTD. So this one is for Kyle!

Ghost Camera...
Decided to play with my camera and check out the multiple exposures option. I got this awesome SOOC image of my bf and her camera. Just a note... you could probably achieve something like this in Photoshop, but you don't get the instant wow factor, like you do, when you do it in the camera.

So, coming home from my birthday lunch with some friends, we pull behind this car with this license plate. I just had to take a pic, and knew that this was my picture of the day. Because, even though I am Jenn K. now, and have been happily for the last 11 years since my wedding. I was born Jenn M. and always will be Jenn M. I thought it was so fitting that I saw this on my birthday of all days.

One of the images I played with was one that my hubby took of me at one of the recent hockey games and I gave myself smoother complexion and did the easiest diets of my life and lost a few pounds in my face alone. Smoke...
This was such a learning process for me. I have never attempted to shoot smoke before. And I have had two Nikon speedlights for about a year now with the thoughts of learning off camera wireless flash, but I have never gotten around to it. So, I said to myself last night.. "What are you waiting for? Now is as good time as any." So after having the flashes for a year, I still needed to pull out the manual, to figure it all out. My resolution this year... no more wasting my money. Learn how to use what I own!

Today's POTD is really a video of the day. I took some shots at PBR at MSG in NYC, but since they were all with a little point and shoot, they kinda sucked. LoL... but the video's came out ok (They were much better before I compressed them for the web). I really wish they would have let me bring in my "real" camera. This video is of JB Mauney, who was the winner of the event at MSG (also one of my favorite riders). Enjoy!

But a Yahoo Group, that totally inspires me, has had the idea of doing a 365 blog of photos to help us grow in our photography. I really wonder if I can keep up, but I'm gonna try. So here goes.. I hope you enjoy! and Wish Me Luck! LoL!!! - Jen
