Update...

01-06-2010:

Ok, so I have slacked off a bit (that's an understatement). I hope to begin working on my blog again, and finish putting up all the pics I have taken but never posted. I am debating on whether I will try another 365 again, but in all likely hood, I not sure I will, but I might try a 52-1. Slightly more manageable I think. Check back in the future for my updates. Have a great one! - Jen

I've been busy, and slacking a bit... this too was taken on the 18th, during the Kelby walk.

No photos today, this one was taken on the Kelby walk on the 18th.

200/365 - July 19th, 2009

Ok, so I admit it, I really needed a photo today, so at the last minute, I took a picture of my hubby's feet and my feet. It was kinda boring, so I played around in photoshop, til I got my resulting image.

199/365 - July 18th, 2009

Today was Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk. This is another fellow photog that I met on the walk. Very nice guy... We played a bit with off camera flash. My BF Jen is holding her SB-900 on my camera right, and Glenn is holding his SB-600 in is right hand. We got this very cool image. What do you think? When I post process, I usually include smoothing the skin, but I almost think I like it how it is... Kinds of adds character and adds to the portrait. What would you do? Should I smooth the skin or leave it as part of the image? Comments appreciated. Thanks!

This toad hopped away from my kids... He wanted to get away so much, he went in through the wheel of our garbage can. Probably, would have been so much easier, just to hop around the side of it. He must not be the brightest toad on the block. LoL.... :)

194/365 - July 13th, 2009

They were predicting rain all day.... The clouds were sooooo dark, but we all prayed we could get through VBS, then let it pour. Our prayers were answered, just as I'm outside with my groups, the sun broke through the clouds, and it never rained. I had to take a pic, with my trusty p&s.

193/365 - July 12th, 2009

All that work, decorating and getting ready.. Well VBS has finally begun! Yea!

192/365 - July 11th, 2009

Took an Advanced Studio Lightning workshop today. This was one of the beautiful models. I had a great time photographing her.

191/365 - July 10th, 2009

My son painted this shark... He is so proud of himself. Not only did he paint it, but he earned it by being a big helper to his sister and behaving ALL day, while I ran some errands. This was his reward, he picked it out in the store and waited ALL day to get to paint it.

190/365 - July 9th, 2009

Quickly shot this off from the car window... This is a sign, in front of my son's new school. He will be starting Kindergarten this fall. Growing up so fast!

189/365 - July 8th, 2009

Nothing shot today... This was taken earlier, a few days ago.

188/365 - July 7th, 2009

149/365 - May 29th, 2009

Friday, May 29th, 2009 - The day the D70 died...

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that photos used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they'd be happy for a while.

But May made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the D70 died.

So bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.

Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock n roll,
Can photos save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Well, I know that you're in love with him
`cause I saw you dancing in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.

I was a lonely teenage bronc'n buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the D70 died.

I started singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.

Now for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rolling stone,
But thats not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from James dean
And a voice that came from you and me,

Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the D70 died.

We were singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.

Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the D70 died?

We started singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.

Oh, and there we were all in one place,
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devils only friend.

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satans spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the D70 died

He was singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
And singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd seen the photos years before,
But the man there said the photos wouldn't show.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the D70 died.

And they were singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing, this'll be the day that I die.
This'll be the day that I die.

They were singing,
Bye-bye, miss American pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing, this'll be the day that I die.

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls

But everyday I grow a bit
And soon I'll be so tall
That all those little fingerprints
Will be so hard to recall.

So here's a special handprint
Just so that you can say
This is how my fingers looked
When I placed them here today

Another image from the archives, due to my surgery recovery. This too was taken a few days earlier on 5/4/2009. Also, walking around Boston. I saw these plants and just really liked the lines, so out came my P&S.

128/365 - May 8th, 2009

Snapshot of the shrub, that I shot earlier with all the white flowers. After a little sleuthing, I think that it is a Magnolia Stella. I really like it and hope to someday plant in my lawn. (and yes, this was post-processed in photoshop

Due to my recent surgery... This one is from the archives... Taken a few days earlier, on 5/4/2009. This was a rose, I saw when walking around Boston, in between pre-op doctor appointments. This was taken with my trusty P&S camera, with minimal post-processing in photoshop.

126/365 - May 6th, 2009

I woke up and my first thought is.... "I can see!" Now mind you, I can't really see any better than before the surgery, but going into the surgery, I didn't know if I'd have any eyesight coming out the surgery. Now we just have to do a lot of wait and see, to see if it actually gets better. Oh, and I'm not mad in the photo, just in so much pain, I can't smile or move. and I am VERY shocked, I do not see any marks on the outside of my face. It doesn't look bruised or swollen. I look totally normal. WOW - What doctors are able to do these days!

This is the view from my hospital Room - Downtown Boston

125/365 - May 5th, 2009

Quick snapshop, pre-surgery. I am minutes away from another, orbital decompression. This time done trans-nasal endoscopically.

Let's hope it works this time!

For those unaware of my situation... I was recently diagnosed with a tumor on my optic nerve. I am partially blind in my left eye, and we are trying to save my eyesight. This is my second surgery, my other one was done on April 1st of this year. (I think my doctors like holidays, the first one was on April Fools Day, and this on is on Cinco De Mayo. LoL!)

This was a shrub or bush I saw and fell in love with flowers on it.
Anyone have any idea what kind of shrub/bush/tree it is????
I would love to plant this in my yard!

114/365 - April 24th, 2009

My son, started a new hockey clinic. He is so proud of his new jersey, he actually asked me to take his picture. So of course, that became my picture of the day. :)

Quick snapshot of my son, so I would have a pic for the pic of the day.

106/365 - April 16th, 2009

An update on the eyes... Looking much better on the outside, but still having trouble seeing. I had a CT scan today. I am being referred by my eye surgeon to an ENT surgeon and a neurosurgeon, for additional surgery. This time they will go up my nose and do another decompression further back in my head. Yippie... can't wait (not). So another week or so of pre-op appointments and then back under the knife when all the administrative stuff gets sorted out and my surgery gets scheduled.

105/365 - April 15th, 2009

This is the man responsible for my obession with photography... Blame it all on him... My DAD! :)

See his camera... The photography "thing" runs in the family.
It's all his fault. LoL!!! :)

And since I couldn't decide which photo for today, I could resist putting up one more....
Family...Hubby, Daughter, Dad, & Son!
:)

I just had to put up a eye pic...
it's getting better! Still can't see very well thru it, but at least it doesn't look too much like I got beat up anymore.

Best friend Jen...

It was either her or another eye photo.

96/365 - April 6th, 2009

5 Days after surgery... Sorry about all the eye images, but I didn't want to give up on the blog, and due to having a huge hole drilled in my head, I didn't feel like getting up off my couch and taking pics (understandably so, I hope). Now, it is a wait and see, on my vision improvements. Currently, my vision is worse than ever (oh, the irony), Double vison, blurry, and still partially blind. I hope it improves soon and I hope the surgery was the right choice.

95/365 - April 5th, 2009

Starting to feel a little better... I finally got off the couch and ventured to my porch swing.

Been doing a lot of thinking this week, and the surgeon, seems to think after my operation (to address my tumor), that I will have minimal scarring, but, just in case, I took the P&S camera and tried to get a quick, but decent shot, of my face beforehand.

79/365 - March 20th, 2009

Still trying to work on my trigger finger. This one was taken with a my P&S camera.

78/365 - March 19th, 2009

No photos taken today.... This one was taken 2 days ago on March 17th.

77/365 - March 18th, 2009

Playing with the P&S camera and different perspectives.

76/365 - March 17th, 2009

Got my MRI results back...

I have a hopefully, most probably,
benign tumor on my optical nerve.

Needless to say, I didn't take this photo,
but I thought it would count as today's photo.

Now, my doctors and I just need to figure
the best course of action for my treatment.

Keep your fingers crossed, I can save my eyesight!

(Blind photographers... probably don't make much money! LoL!!!)

BTW - Happy St. Patrick's Day, Everyone!

75/365 - March 16th, 2009

Been having a lot of trouble seeing out of my left eye,
so I went to a ophthalmologist apt. today.

I'm not sure why I'm smiling,
I just had my eyes dilated,
and I am on my way to get blood work,
so I can get an MRI tomorrow.
Fun! NOT!

I thik the smile, is because
of the fashionable sunglasses.

Don't you just love my fashionable sunglasses???

74/365 - March 15th, 2009

Kyle playing hockey, in a "real" game. We have done clinic all season (not a team, no real games), and he was so excited to play in a "real" game, against another team. In fact this weekend, was a jamboree, and he got to play in three games. His team won 2 of the 3. Can you just imagine the excitement for a 5 year old! Check out the concentration on his face. I love it.

No pics today... so here is one from my archives....

Nothing shot today... So another image from yesterday.

I thought this was sooo cute... Father and Daughter. (But I might be biased, as I am the wife and mother of these two... LoL!)

My daughter hamming it up for the camera.

57/365 - February 26th, 2009

I know that these are not very techically correct, I was testing some lights, and my light meter. (Confirmed, I need to send the light meter to be repaired. Not so happy about.) But, for the first time in a long time, I got my hubby to patiently sit in front of my camera, so I could run through tests. Thanks Ken! I really need to edit these images... they SOOC images.

56/365 - February 25th, 2009

My kids... actually sharing!

Don't tell them,
or it won't happen again
for a long time. LoL!

Chatting with a friend about posing techniques and how without changing anything (camera pov, lighting, or camera settings), you can get a completly different photo and feeling. This is a quick illustration of that. One has a more masculine feeling and one is more feminine feeling.

Tide spin brush....

52/365 - February 21st, 2009

So, after attending Bobbi Lane's Flash Class Workshop, I am totally inspired to try to use gels on my speedlights. But, I don't want to ruin my filters every time with tape. So, I decided to make a filter holder for my speedlight. I first obtained a Rosco Swatchbook of gels, carefully pulled out the pin holding it together. I then replaced it with metal hoop (JoAnne's embroridery section), that can be opened and closed any time I want to remove or replace the filter. Then, I got some badge holders from Staples, and cut them on the top and folded them in a way they would just slip into my speedlight. No tape or velcro needed. Volia... I now have a reusable filter/gel holder for very little cost.

48/365 - February 17th, 2009

My son is so into Wall-E these days that the movie has surpassed Cars, and now is classified as his favorite. So, he got out his legos and made a robot. He is so proud of it, I'm supposed to put it high on a shelf out of reach of his little sister, so that in his words "she won't mess it up!", I figured since he liked it that much, I'd make it my POTD. So this one is for Kyle!

47/365 - February 16th, 2009

Didn't shoot today, but I was editing and post-processing all my images from the Bobbi Lane Workshop.

So today's POTD is another one from the workshop....

46/365 - February 15th, 2009

I had the chance to take a Bobbi Lane workshop - Flash Class II. It was great, but now I'm hooked and want to take more workshop and classes with her!

45/365 - February 14th, 2009

Was asked at last moment to make a dessert for a funeral reception. Didn't know what to make, but I had all the ingredients for a cake, so I whipped up a quick cross cake. Not my best work, but I guess it could look a lot worse.

44/365 - February 13th, 2009

Another hockey night... After shooting hockey with my "real" camera, my p&s just isn't as good.

43/365 - February 12th, 2009

Didn't shoot anything today, so I'm pulling one from my archives....

42/365 - February 11th, 2009

A camera club, that I am thinking of joining had a hands on night. These girls are a few of the willing victims, um.. I mean models that so graciously posed for us to practice and learn on.
Thanks girls!

Ghost Camera...

Decided to play with my camera and check out the multiple exposures option. I got this awesome SOOC image of my bf and her camera. Just a note... you could probably achieve something like this in Photoshop, but you don't get the instant wow factor, like you do, when you do it in the camera.

40/365 - February 9th, 2009

Playing with my p&s camera, while my kids were playing on the playground.

39/365 - February 8th, 2009

Didn't take many photos today, so when we were out to dinner at a local restaurant, I caught this ferocious bear on the attack. We were lucky to escape with our leftovers alive! :)

38/365 - February 7th, 2009

So, coming home from my birthday lunch with some friends, we pull behind this car with this license plate. I just had to take a pic, and knew that this was my picture of the day. Because, even though I am Jenn K. now, and have been happily for the last 11 years since my wedding. I was born Jenn M. and always will be Jenn M. I thought it was so fitting that I saw this on my birthday of all days.

37/365 - February 6th, 2009

Today was a busy day, so this is one from the archives. This is my favorite singer "Fish" from Scotland, on a rare tour in the US last June. This was taken at BB Kings in NYC.

Seagull

Trusty p&s camera in local shopping center parking lot. Driving home, saw a bunch of seagulls, had to pull over, roll down the window and fire off a couple of shots.

Puppy on Porch.

Kids and Hubby were sledding in the back yard, and the dog came over to greet me when I opened the sliding glass door to talk to them. Taken with my trusty p&s.

Water Puddles in the Parking Lot...

Waiting for my son to get out of school, I saw the water just pouring out of the gutter and splashing. Had to get me my pic of the day. I used my Canon SD-400 P&S Camera for this.

32/365 - February 1st, 2009

So, I did a photo shoot of my best friend and her fiance today, for their wedding save the date cards. I would love to post some, but I haven't asked for permission, so I am going to put one up that I love from the shoot, but it shouldn't violate her privacy.

31/365 - January 31st, 2009

So, no new photos today from my camera... But, it was a photo day, because I played with some photos on the computer . One of the images I played with was one that my hubby took of me at one of the recent hockey games and I gave myself smoother complexion and did the easiest diets of my life and lost a few pounds in my face alone. LoL!

30/365 - January 30th, 2009

This was our exciting adventure to McDonald's. While we were eating and the kids were playing in the playplace, the fire alarm went off. It turned out to be a false alarm, but the kids sure loved seeing all the different fire trucks.

No photos today, so another one of my favorites from my kids Christmas photo session.

Nikon D70, 50mm, f/8, Shutter 1/45, ISO ?, WB-Coloright , 3 Photoflex Starlite Continuous lights (main, fill, hair) and 1 Smith Victor for the background, Editied in PS (crop, smooth skin, levels, convert to B&W).

25/365 - January 25th, 2009

No photographs taken today... So, we get a another blast from the past. This time, I decided to see what I shot, on this day, two years ago in 2007. The cutest of the bunch is this one of my daughter all bundled up in the infant car carrier. She would be about 4 months (almost 5) in this pic.

24/365 - January 24th, 2009

We went to another hockey game, but I thought you might be tired of hockey shots, so even though I probably took a thousand shots (no kidding either... LOL, I still have to edit them, ugh!) I thought I would give you a hockey shot with a slight twist.

Smoke...

This was such a learning process for me. I have never attempted to shoot smoke before. And I have had two Nikon speedlights for about a year now with the thoughts of learning off camera wireless flash, but I have never gotten around to it. So, I said to myself last night.. "What are you waiting for? Now is as good time as any." So after having the flashes for a year, I still needed to pull out the manual, to figure it all out. My resolution this year... no more wasting my money. Learn how to use what I own!

21/365 - January 21st, 2009

This is my neighbors holiday decoration. I drive by all the time and see the sun shinning on it and making it look very pretty. I just had to get out my camera at least once to try to capture the beauty.

20/365 - January 20th, 2009

Beads

19/365 - January 19th, 2009

Ok, so I went down into the basement to play a little with my camera, I had dreams of photographing the snow, in my light tent set-up and seeing the beautiful designs. About 2 seconds in, one of my two light bulbs burnt out. So I grabbed the light bulb to bring upstairs, so I could order another one, but then I decided to pop it in the tent and take a few shots of it. Compared to my really bad snow shots, I decided to post this instead. Maybe some body can tell me how make some compelling snow shots. What would your camera/lighting setup be?

18/365 - January 18th, 2009

I didn't take any photos today, so I thought I'd go back in time and see what I was doing one year ago on this date. So this photo is from Jan. 18th, 2008. It looks like we were at McDonald's play place.

17/365 - January 17th, 2009

I figured if you can see my laundry, you can see the inside of my washing machine.

16/365 - January 16th, 2009

I don't want to air my dirty laundry... but I'm gonna... (Hey, we all got it. So I'm not gonna be ashamed. LoL..) I just thought Ace peeking out was cute.

15/365 - January 15th, 2009

My ferocious cat... NOT!

14/365 - January 14th, 2009

Nope... haven't taken down the Christmas tree yet. I'll get to it sooner or later. LoL.

13/365 - January 13th, 2009

Opps... I didn't shoot a pic today. So I'll post one of my favorites from our Christmas photo session. These are the love of my life.. my precious kids.

12/365 - January 12th, 2009

I needed a POTD, so I took a quick look around my office, saw this and put it on my desk chair and shot it.

11/365 - January 11th, 2009

Today's POTD is really a video of the day. I took some shots at PBR at MSG in NYC, but since they were all with a little point and shoot, they kinda sucked. LoL... but the video's came out ok (They were much better before I compressed them for the web). I really wish they would have let me bring in my "real" camera. This video is of JB Mauney, who was the winner of the event at MSG (also one of my favorite riders). Enjoy!

When I see this photo... I think, they are thinking and/or saying ... "GRR, GRR... It's Mine!"

2/365 - January 2, 2009

This is my DD, being super silly. She's 2 and she wanted a scarf on her head, and she's playing peek-a-boo with a bucket over her head.

1/365 - January 1st, 2009

Starting my blog a few days late, but using photos I took on the actual day. This was a late Christmas celebration with my closest friend and her fiance. (Also in photo... DH, DS, & DD w/dogs)
Well, I have never been one to journal, and I'm completely new to blogging. But a Yahoo Group, that totally inspires me, has had the idea of doing a 365 blog of photos to help us grow in our photography. I really wonder if I can keep up, but I'm gonna try. So here goes.. I hope you enjoy! and Wish Me Luck! LoL!!! - Jen

BTW - I have absolutely no idea what I am doing! :)
